On June
24, 2007 the Board of
Directors of the Illinois
Country Music Association
voted Pam as recipient of
their "Pioneer Award".
Since we had a gospel sing
later the same day, I had to
trick her into attending ...
by telling her that I was
asked to present the award
to Rick Roy.
As I
introduced "the recipient",
I managed to touch on many
things Pam and Rick had in
common (learning to sing in
church, working with several
Nashville stars, having two
kids, singing at the
Nashville Sound Country
Opry, being in our wedding
...) The surprise was
complete! |
Here I am, reading a speech that could apply equally to Pam or Rick Roy ... ... and here's Pam as she arrived on stage after Rick annouced her name. Pam giving thanks to the fans who've watched her through the years. Joy, Kaitlyn and Sydney surprised Granny by attending the award show. She forgave me for making her go to the show! Nana is very proud of her daughter's accomplishments! Chet Gilbert and Pam Gilbert Fisher -- now both members of the ICMA Hall of Fame.
Pam was sitting on the front row, waiting to take a photo of Rick! Chet even talked his way out of a speeding ticket on the way to the show!
